Cafe LaJolla Cookbook
In the 1980's, Cafe LaJolla would open its southern California doors to a line of eager early-birds awaiting a Cafe muffin and would close each day with the straggler lingering over the cherry cheesecake. Lunchtime lines were not uncommon either, due to the mix of fresh salads inspired from round-the-world places. Cafe LaJolla was a friendly business serving not only LaJolla but also supplying salads and baked goods to an impressive list of San Diego-area restaurants. From the Cafe Salad with ravigote dressing, creatively arranged in parchment, to the colorful Garbanzo Saffron Salad, it seems each recipe was someone's favorite. Hence, the inspiration for this collection of our recipes that serve as a guide to the Cafe LaJolla experience. Even though 20-some years have passed, I am convinced the Cafe's recipe book survived for one reason, to be able to share it with you. So, don your leg warmers and leotards, and enjoy the taste of the 80's. I hope you are as pleased by it all as I am.
